churchill's War Rooms

 We had a scheduled reservation for Winston Churchill*s War bunker. We called. Uber, a very friendly driver named Simon, picked us up.  He pointed out an attraction near the drop.off point, the Boadicea and her daughters' statue. Across from Big Ben on Waterloo Bridge. Boadicea was.a Celtic Queen who led an uprising. Against the  Roman invasion.  While not the winner, she did hold her own. If the statue is correct, she did it bare-breasted with her daughters at her feet... But I digress..  Back on point. We had the world's best tour guide, a 60-year-old lady with a passion for WWII.   Not only did her tell the stories from a female point of view, she enjoyed talking about WW2 aircraft,s a lot.

Pat would have been right at home in Sarasota. She would be treated like a goddess by Senior men. The group was large, all American except for two Brits, a man and his wife.  When talking about King Edward, she referred to Wallis Simpson as THAT AMERICAN. Let her feelings be known. ,  By the way. King. Edward is referred to as David, which, under the circumstances of being a traitor to England, is more kind. She fed us interesting stories and we ate them up. I learned that Wallis Simpson was having an affair with a German at the same time as David. And passing documents to the Germans. Now that I think of it, THAT AMERICAN comment was nicer than what I would have said about her. Winston Churchill is mainly of interest to Americans. The UK is dealing with Winston's place in history, trying to reconcile his racism, elitism, and imperialism. Currently, only fourteen sentences are taught in the UK schools about Winston Churchill, which includes primary and secondary schools. The United States has more monuments and markers than the rest of the world combined.  

There were a couple of movies titled Waterloo Bridge.. Two movies with the same premise, but different wars. A woman becomes a "working Girl" after her man is away at War. The Carol Burnett spoof is great, titled Waterloo Bilge (S6 E18), her working girl outfit is worth a look alone. Its accessories include a coin belt change machine.
